FAQs

What can I put in my skip?

Skips are used for the disposal of non-hazardous waste such as building refuse, household items such as kitchen and bathrooms and garden rubbish. They are not for the disposal of hazardous waste and it is illegal for you to mix the two. Click here to see what you can put in your skip.

But please remember, it can of course only be used for any legal waste items.

What is hazardous waste?

Click here for a list of what is considered hazardous waste, if you need to dispose of these items you will require a special license and a different type of disposal service.

Do I need to be home when my skip is delivered?

Skips can be delivered with no person present providing there are no access restrictions. You can add notes to your booking for the driver if you would like your skip placed in a certain area.

What time will my skip arrive?

Skips are delivered between 7am – 4pm. If you would like to have your skip delivered for AM or PM we can add this service for an additional cost.

How full can I load my skip?

You must never over fill your skip. This is the law. To ensure the skip is safe to transport, you must ensure that it is not filled past the top of the sides. Over-filled skips will not be taken under any circumstances.

If you are unsure ask the driver before you start to fill your skip as this will prevent possible issues later with collection.

What if I need my skip longer than my selected collection date?

If you require your skip for longer than the 14 day maximum hire period you can call the office to amend your collection date, this may incur an additional charge.

I’m unsure what skip size to choose – what should I do?

Check out our range of skip sizes online, which will give you some guidance to what size skip you should choose.

Simplicity: we really do offer an easy system in a highly complicated industry. Waste disposal can involve learning lots before you are ready to choose a service suitable for you, even before finding out the costs involved.

Risk factor and peace of mind: You do not need to gamble on cowboy traders advertising cheap solutions, which may end up with your waste fly tipped, or hidden charges might suddenly be added too. Any operators without correct licences can also cost YOU fines. Don't take a chance on where your waste could go, it may also go to Landfill and not recycled which is just not good enough in modern times.

What happens to my waste?

The rubbish you put in your skip will be processed at our own authorised facility which adheres to all UK and EU legislation.
As a rough guide, we recycle around 90-95% of the waste placed in skips.

Where can I put my skip and do I need to inform the local authorities?

A skip can be placed anywhere on your private property provided that the lorry/driver can access the location. When the lorry/driver returns they must also be able access it for collection. As a guide we would ask for 9-10 feet width (2.8m) on the entrance to a driveway to allow the lorry to get in. However, it may be possible for the skip to be dropped onto the driveway from the entrance to the property as long as there is sufficient room for the arms to lower.

You may not move a skip when it has been placed, as you may make it inaccessible.

Always give clear instructions to the lorry driver when they arrive at your premises as to avoid the skip being placed incorrectly.

If you want to place your skip on public land (i.e. the road or pathway) you will require a permit from your local authority please contact them to arrange this.

Do you have the required permits and licenses?

Barton Skip Hire are fully licensed by the Environment Agency as a waste carrier and waste manager. Our vehicles are fully licensed by the department of transport. Our drivers are all licensed for heavy goods vehicles and are highly experienced in transporting, loading and offloading skips.
